20/20 Vision
The Times Square Ball Drop has been held on New Years Eve annually since 1907. Initially the ball was constructed from iron and wood and lit with 100 incandescent light bulbs. The current version features a computerized LED lighting system and an outer surface consisting of triangular crystal panels.
The Crown Plaza Times Square Manhattan Hotel hosts a New Years Eve bash known for its excellent view of the ball drop. It was our assignment as event professionals to provide dancers sparkly enough to compete with the glittering ball. We selected our glittering gold showgirls and our dazzling Human Disco Balls. Mission accomplished! Revelers danced along, posed for photos, and even shed a few tears.
